
A sweet, simple Groundhog Day snack where little “groundhogs” peek out of chocolate soil. No baking, minimal mess, and perfect for grandparents and grandkids to make together.
🧺 Ingredients
- 2 ripe bananas
- ½ cup chocolate chips (milk or dark)
- 2 tablespoons peanut butter or sunflower seed butter (optional)
- Mini marshmallows or chocolate chips (for eyes)
- Shredded coconut or crushed vanilla wafers (optional “soil” topping)

- Slice the Bananas
Peel bananas and cut them in half crosswise.

🧓 Adult help: Cutting with a knife - Make the “Groundhog Faces”
Spread a small dab of peanut butter on the cut side of each banana half. Press on two mini marshmallows or chocolate chips for eyes.
👶 Kid step: Decorating faces - Melt the Chocolate
Place chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 20-second bursts, stirring each time, until smooth.
🧓 Adult step: Microwave handling - Dip the Bottoms
Dip the flat end of each banana into melted chocolate to look like they’re popping out of the ground.
👶 Kid step: Gentle dipping (with help nearby) - Add “Soil” (Optional)
Sprinkle shredded coconut or crushed wafers onto the chocolate before it sets.

Place on parchment paper and chill for 10–15 minutes until chocolate firms up.
