- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon butter (or a little cooking spray)
- A pinch of salt
- A pinch of pepper (optional)

- Cut the hole in the bread
Use a cookie cutter or glass to press a circle out of the center of the bread.

Put the skillet on the stove over medium heat and add the butter. Let it melt and spread.

Place the bread slice (and the cut-out circle if you like) into the pan. Let it toast for about 1 minute.

Carefully crack the egg into the hole in the bread. Sprinkle lightly with salt (and pepper if using).

When the bottom is golden and the egg white looks mostly set (about 1–2 minutes), gently flip everything.
Cook another 30–60 seconds, depending on how runny you like the yolk.
